Happy Birthday AG! ~ 35’th Anniversary Special Edition Dolls!

Hey everyone! Not sure how many of you guys know this, but American Girl just recently celebrated their 35’th anniversary, and in celebration decided to rerelease their 6 original dolls!

That means that now you can go straight to the American Girl website and buy a Molly, Samantha, Felicity, Josefina, Addie, or Kirsten doll! Oh. My. Gosh. Right? I was so excited when I found out about this, but I also kind of felt a little funny at the same time! Why, you may ask? Because I Literally just bought a Felicity doll off of eBay!

Now I’m not disappointed or anything that I spent my money on a doll off of eBay when I could’ve just gotten her on the AG website, because even though the doll itself is the same, the one that I bought comes with a purple dress (purple is my favorite color😊), while the one that American Girl rereleased comes with a, um, brown, white, and, other colors dress?

Here are some pictures so that you can see:

The one on the left is the one that American Girl just rereleased. The one on the right is the one that I just bought.

And here are some pictures of the original, original doll.

Well, now that you guys have seen those pictures, how about we look at all of the other new-ur, rereleased dolls?

Molly McIntire’s 35’th Anniversary Collection

Price: $150

So first we have Molly, who was one of the three original dolls, along with Kirsten and Samantha. Now when I was little, I actually thought that Molly looked really boring! I don’t know why I ever thought that! She is such a pretty doll! Maybe the reason that I like her so much now is because now I always look at dolls with as a doll collector. Not as someone who just likes dolls and plays with them. I think that what I like the most about this Molly is the fact that American Girl made her almost identical to the original! Now I know that they did use some different types of fabric for some of the items, including the her hat, sweater, and skirt. Her red bag has more of a fake leather feel to it, unlike the original bag which almost felt like real leather. Her socks and shoes are pretty much exactly the same. I have actually gotten to see a 35’th Anniversary Edition Molly in person recently! Someone that I know bought her and showed her to me. The doll really was super pretty even in real life! So it wasn’t where it just looked nice in the pictures.

Samantha Parkington’s 35’th Anniversary Collection

Price: $150

One thing that I love that American Girl did when they rereleased Molly, Samantha, and Kirsten, is that they brought back the original bangs style that they all used to have. You see, the Beforver versions of Samantha and Molly did not use the original “pie bangs” style that they first had. And while they still looked really pretty, they did not look as pretty as they did with the “pie bangs” in my opinion. I have always loved Samantha, and have always wanted to get her. I really want to get the 35’th Anniversary Edition of Samantha, but I wouldn’t used her for my doll family since she is kind of a collector’s item. So she would probably just end up staying on a shelf in my bedroom most of the time. Then I would probably buy a Beforever version of Samantha to add to my doll family. For some reason, I really like the original dress that Samantha had (the one that she is wearing above) better than the Beforever one. Maybe it’s just because of it being the original one that she wore. One thing that I’ve always loved about Samantha is her hair. It’s so pretty and curly! And that bow that she is wearing is adorbs!

Addy Walker’s 35’th Anniversary Collection

Price: $150

Like Molly, Addy is a doll that I never really liked that much until I started to get into doll collecting. I don’t know why I couldn’t see how pretty Addy is when I was younger! Like Samantha, I like Addy’s original dress a lot better than the Beforever version. I feel like the Beforver version is a bit too fancy. The original one seems more realistic. I’m honestly not a big fan of Addy’s accessories since they seem so plain, but I can understand how they fit into her story. I absolutely love Addy’s bonnet! It’s just so cute! Especially with that big bow on it! I think that Addy is a super pretty doll and I could really see myself buying her!

Kirsten Larson’s 35’th Anniversary Collection

Price: $150

Ok, so when I heard that Kirsten was coming back, I was soooooooooooooo excited! Kirsten is actually the only one of the six original doll that was never part of the Beforver line or even ever rereleased! Now Kirsten is another doll where, like Molly and Addy, I never really liked her that much before. Sure I thought that she was kind of cute, but she also just looked really boring. And once again, I don’t know why I didn’t like her before! I absolutely Love Kirsten! Her hair is in the cutest style ever, and she is just so cute! There are a lot of things with Kirsten’s outfit that are not exactly the same as the original, such as her shoes, socks, and parts of her dress, but I personally don’t really care that much. For some reason Kirsten doesn’t really look as cute to me whenever she is wearing her bonnet. I think that it’s because of it not showing as much of her hair. Kirsten has the “pie bangs” just like Samantha and Molly do, even though her having bangs is not historically accurate. Most people believe that the only reason that she had bangs was so that the company wouldn’t have to change the wig style. (since they used the same wig style for both Samantha and Molly.) Personally I think that Kirsten looks super cute with the bangs, and don’t really care if its not historically accurate.

Josefina Montoya’s 35’th Anniversary Collection

Price: $150

I’ve honestly never been a big fan of Josefina. She’s always seemed like a kind of boring doll to me. Never the less, I could still see myself maybe buying the 35’th Anniversary Edition of her for simply collecting purposes. I think that the flower and blue ribbon in Josefina’s hair is a pretty cute. Her accessories are pretty cute if you ask me, even though they are pretty plain. One thing that I’ve always wondered about Josefine is why she comes with earrings already in her hair, instead of you having to pay $16 dollars to get them pierced. Maybe it has something to do with her culture?

Felicity Merriman’s 35’th Anniversary Collection

Price: $150

Once again, we are back on the subject of Miss Felicity! I have always loved Felicity, because the American Revolution period has always been my most favorite part of history to read about! I think that Felicity’s outfit is pretty cute even though I don’t like it nearly as I do the purple version. I Love her little hat and her accessories are super cute! Even though I literally just bought a Felicity doll, I could see myself getting another……..

By the way, one thing that I forgot to mention was that when I saw Molly in person, and even on the online pictures, I could clearly see that all of these dolls are really, really good quality! Better quality then most American Girl Dolls usually are now! For some reason, a few years ago American Girl decided to cut back on the quality of their dolls. So all of the dolls that they sell right now are not as good quality as the older dolls are. I’m not sure why AG doesn’t make their dolls as good quality anymore, but I do wish that would go back to doing it again.

Another thing that I forgot to mention was the fact that American girl reprinted all of the 35’th Anniversary doll’s original books! The books are exactly like the original books down to the page numbers! AG also decided to remake the original doll boxes that these dolls had when they were first released!

These dolls are special edition, so we know that these dolls will be going back into retirement soon, but as far as I know AG has not conformed when just yet. In the past when American Girl released something that was special edition, the item (or items) was usually out for only a few months, or until the end of the year. I personally think that they will be staying out until the end of this year since that way, these dolls will be around at Christmas time, and American Girl will be able to sell more of the dolls and make more money. (They are a business you know.)

Anyways, that’s pretty much about it for this post! I hope that you all enjoyed it! Which 35’th Anniversary doll is your favorite?

PS. I was actually originally going to post this back in May, but never finished it until today!🙂
